São Paulo to open trade office in Shanghai

Governor João Doria of the Brazilian state of São Paulo has said Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro will attend the opening of the São Paulo trade office in Shanghai, China’s major financial centre, on August 9, Agência Brasil reports.

The Brazilian state-run news agency quotes Mr Doria as telling a news conference for foreign media that the Shanghai office will be the first São Paulo has had abroad.

Mr Doria said he expected the state eventually to open trade offices in other Chinese cities.

He said he would be among the officials accompanying Mr Bolsonaro when the president begins a 10-day visit to Shanghai and Chinese capital Beijing on August 3 to drum up Chinese investment in ports, airports, railways and farms the Brazilian government is selling off.

The visiting party will include 30 businesspeople, Agência Brasil quotes Mr Doria as saying.
