São Tomé and Príncipe president expects Mainland deal to create jobs

São Tomé and Príncipe President Evaristo Carvalho believes co-operation with China will create jobs for young unemployed people in his country, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Mr Carvalho as saying the deal recently struck has a “high expectation that we will create a lot of employment”.

The agreement envisages improvement of the main airport in São Tomé and Príncipe and construction of a deep-water harbour.

Mr Carvalho, speaking during an official visit to Portugal, described as “appropriate” the resumption in December of diplomatic relations between China and his country, Lusa says.
