Schedule set for Chinese revamp of Angolan hydropower plant

Angolan Minister of Energy and Water João Baptista Borges has said trial runs of the rehabilitated Luachimo hydroelectric power station in the northern Angolan province of Lunda Norte should begin late next year, Jornal de Angola reports.

The newspaper quotes Mr Borges as saying during a visit to the province that the contractors, led by China Gezhouba Group Co. Ltd, will repair the dam and boost the output of the plant to 34 megawatts from 8.4 megawatts.

The minister said the Luachimo plant should be fully operational by 2020, supplying electricity to at least 186,000 households in Lunda Norte.
