Shaanxi promotes investment in Mozambique

China’s Shaanxi province wants to expand its investment in Mozambique, especially in relation to infrastructure, special economic zones, textiles and agriculture, said two representatives from Shaanxi, quoted by Mozambican newspaper Notícias.

Mozambique is among the top-10 trade partners of Shaanxi in Africa, said Yang Miao, representative of the Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission.

“Under the ‘One Belt, One Road’ initiative, we have signed a co-operation agreement with the Government of Mozambique to expand Shaanxi’s investment to other areas and support the industrialisation process [of Mozambique],” said Mr Yang, quoted by Notícias.

Shaanxi’s provincial government is encouraging local companies to invest in Mozambique, said Wang Jian, from the Department of Commerce of Shaanxi Province. Companies from the Chinese province have participated in the construction of a new railway line serving the port of Nacala, in Mozambique’s Nampula province.

Mr Wang said the co-operation between Shaanxi and Africa has been yielding ever-greater results, especially in economic matters.

“The next step is to enact the existing agreements, which will encourage companies in Shaanxi to invest more in Africa, such as [via] transport, infrastructure and technology transfer,” added Mr Wang, quoted by the media outlet.
