Shanghai Electric eyes Brazilian power transmission project

A subsidiary of Shanghai Electric Group Co. Ltd of China has proposed to take over an electricity transmission project in southern Brazil, Reuters reports, citing Brazilian electricity regulator Aneel as its source.

The news agency quotes Aneel Director José Jurhosa as saying of the proposal: “We’re analysing it.”

Mr Jurhosa said the takeover depended on Shanghai Electric accepting conditions set by Aneel.

The report says the 3.3 billion reais (US$1 billion) electricity transmission project, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, was originally given to a subsidiary of Brazilian utility Eletrobras.
