Shipyard delivers bulk carrier for Brazil-China trade route

Chinese shipbuilder Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding Co. Ltd has delivered a 400,000-tonne very large ore carrier to China Merchants Energy Shipping Co. Ltd, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese government-run news agency says the ship, named Pacific Vision, is about 362 metres long and 65 metres wide.

The ship’s systems can monitor the hold and how the vessel is performing, and tell the crew how to avoid collisions at sea, Xinhua says.

Separately, Seatrade Maritime News reports that the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute designed the Pacific Vision.

The website says the ship is the first “intelligent” very large ore carrier to be given China Classification Society certification.

The report says the main purpose of the ship is to carry Brazilian iron ore to China.

The Pacific Vision will make its maiden commercial voyage from Ponta da Madeira in the Brazilian state of Maranhão, Seatrade Maritime News says.
