Sino-Angolan chamber gives Angolan students scholarships

The Angola-Anhui Chamber of Commerce has undertaken to give scholarships to students at Agostinho Neto University in Luanda, the Africa Oriental Post reports.

The newspaper says the chamber, which represents enterprises in the eastern Chinese province of Anhui that do business in Angola, has agreed to give outstanding students that need financial help scholarships with a combined value of 12 million kwanzas (US$38,656) over a period of five years.

The report quotes Agostinho Neto University Rector Pedro Magalhães as expressing gratitude.

Mr Magalhães said at least 15 percent of the 25,000 students at his university needed financial help.

The university is a vehicle for Sino-Angolan social and cultural exchanges, having last November sent a party of Angolans on a tour of Chinese cities, among them Macao, the Africa Oriental Post quotes the rector as saying.
