A Sino-Angolan joint venture, Luckyman Angola Desenvolvimento Lda, and an unidentified Angolan state-run trader in grain and oil have formed a partnership to grow rice on about 10,000 hectares of land belonging to the trading company, Portal china.com reports.
The Chinese website says the land can yield about 60,000 tonnes of rice a year, so reducing Angolan dependence on imported rice and stabilising the price of the staple.
The report quotes Luckyman Executive President Paulo Xiong as saying his company will do all it can to develop agriculture in Angola and make the country self-sufficient in grain.
The Angolan government considers the project important for developing agriculture, Portal china.com quotes an unidentified representative of the Angolan state-run company as saying.
