The China- Brazil Earth Resource Satellite-4A is scheduled to be launched into orbit in 2019, Xinhua reports.
The Chinese state-run news agency, citing an announcement by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp. says the earth observation satellite is the sixth satellite developed jointly by Brazil and China.
Sino-Brazilian collaboration on earth resource satellites began in the 1980s, with a view to using the information they provide to exploit agricultural, forestry and water resources more efficiently, to monitor the environment in general and to mitigate the effects of disasters, Xinhua says.
