Sino-Portuguese accords signed after heads of state meet

Representatives of China and Portugal have signed a series of agreements in Beijing, including an accord on co-operation in the markets of other countries, the China Daily reports.

The Chinese government-run newspaper says the agreements were signed after Chinese President Xi Jinping and Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa met in Beijing on Monday.

In a separate report, Xinhua quotes Mr Xi as telling his guest that China and Portugal should co-operate more in every field and develop a comprehensive strategic partnership with higher aims, a broader vision and greater vitality.

The Chinese government-run news agency quotes Mr Xi as saying his country regards Portugal as an important partner in the Chinese Belt and Road initiative, and that China and Portugal should trade more with each other, invest more in each other, and collaborate more in energy, infrastructure and electric vehicles.

He said China was willing to work with Portugal to get more out of economic engagement between China and the Portuguese-speaking world.

Portugal is willing to strengthen Sino-Portuguese ties in trade, investment, technology and other economic matters, to strengthen cultural ties, and to increase Sino-Portuguese co-operation in markets in other countries, Xinhua quotes Mr Sousa as telling his host.

Mr Sousa is visiting China for six days, and his programme includes stops in Beijing, Shanghai, and Macao.
