Statue of Confucius unveiled in Brazil

A bronze statue of the Chinese philosopher Confucius, a gift from China, has been unveiled in the southern Brazilian city of Curitiba, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency quotes Chinese ambassador to Brazil Li Jinzhang as saying at the unveiling that the statue is a token of Chinese appreciation of the attachment of Brazil to Chinese culture and its enthusiasm for Sino-Brazilian cultural exchanges.

Mr Li said the statue showed how tolerant and open to outside influence Brazilian culture was.

The statue is a symbol of Sino-Brazilian friendship and trade, Xinhua quotes Curitiba Mayor Rafael Greca as saying.
