Super Bock invests in widening its market in China

Super Bock Group Chief Executive Rui Lopes Ferreira has said the Portuguese brewer has bought 20 percent of Sociedade de Bebidas de Macau, which owns the distributor of its beer in Mainland China, Xiamen Bock Brand Operation, Expresso reports.

The Portuguese newspaper quotes Mr Lopes Ferreira as saying his company intends to begin selling its beer in China in the city of Shanghai and in two more provinces other than Zhejiang and Fujian, where it sells beer already.

Mr Lopes Ferreira said that in the first half of this year his company sold the same amount of beer in China as it sold there a year earlier.

But he expressed confidence that the 2,000 people employed there to sell Super Bock beer would get sales growing again.

Last year 30 percent of Super Bock beer sold outside Portugal was sold in China, accounting for one quarter of the business the brewer did that year, Expresso says.
