Swine fever in China an opportunity for Brazilian exporters

The boss of Brazilian meat processor JBS SA thinks an outbreak of swine fever in China will reduce the pork supply there, creating demand for more Brazilian and US pork, Reuters reports.

The news agency quotes JBS Chief Executive Gilberto Tomazoni as saying in a webcast that the swine fever outbreak may change considerably the international market for meat of all kinds.

“China has already significantly increased pork imports from Brazil due to the outbreak,” Mr Tomazoni said.

China produces almost 55 million tonnes of pork a year, and buys roughly half the pork Brazil exports, Reuters says.
