Tourism industry expecting more Chinese to visit Portugal

The results of a survey indicate that 66.7 percent of Portuguese tourism businesses expect the number of Chinese visitors to Portugal to rise this year, Negócios reports.

The Portuguese financial newspaper says the results of the latest Tourism Barometer survey conducted by IPDT – Tourism Institute indicate that only 1.6 percent of the businesses surveyed expect fewer Chinese visitors this year, even though there has been no direct air service between China and Portugal since October 2018.

The report says 74.6 percent expect more Americans to visit Portugal this year, while about two-thirds fear fewer Britons will visit because Britain is leaving the European Union.

The latest results of the Tourism Barometer were made public on Tuesday at a tourism industry meeting in the Portuguese city of Vila Nova de Gaia, Negócios says.
