Trade situation remains ‘complicated’ this year says Commerce Ministry

Protectionism and sluggish demand means trade will remain “complicated” this year according to the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.

The state-run news agency Xinhua quoted Commerce Ministry spokesman Sun Jiwen as saying the Government would create “a more law-based, international and convenient business environment” to facilitate trade.

Beijing intends on assisting companies to explore overseas markets and to maintain proactive policies on imports.

In the first 11 months of last year, the value of Mainland China’s total trade was 21.8 trillion yuan (US$3.16 trillion), down by 1.2 percent compared to the same period in 2015.
