University of Macau to have Confucius Institute to teach Chinese

The University of Macau has announced that the relevant authorities have given it permission to establish a Confucius Institute.

The university issued a written statement saying the institute will endeavour to make Macao a place where foreigners, especially speakers of Portuguese, can come to learn Chinese.

The Confucius Institute will open early next year, occupying a temporary office until facilities of its own are built, according to the statement.

The institute will integrate teaching and research resources within and outside the university with a view to offering language training and conducting research, arranging cultural exchanges and administering Chinese-language proficiency examinations, the university says.
