China will provide €3 million (about US$3.5 million) of the money the government of São Tomé e Príncipe intends to spend this year, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency says the government’s amended budget shows Chinese contributions to small projects in São Tomé e Príncipe in the fields of education, health, employment, social affairs, youth affairs and sport.

The report says that in the field of education, China will pay for scholarships; in health, it will pay for the purchase of drugs and other supplies, for measures to counter malaria and for technical assistance; and in sport, it will pay for the fitting-out of multi-purpose pavilions.
