Walmart in China to sell Imperial chocolate made in Portugal

Imperial Produtos Alimentares SA Executive Director Manuela Tavares de Sousa has said the Portuguese maker of chocolate and Walmart Inc. of the United States have agreed to sell Imperial chocolate in Walmart branches in China, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Ms Tavares de Sousa as saying her company will begin selling its products – “namely our healthy products” – through Walmart Sam’s Club outlets in Mexico, Chile and China next year.

The report says Imperial sells chocolate in about 50 countries, most sales being in Europe, and aims to sell it more widely through big international retailers.

Imperial spends €2.5 million (about US$2.8 million) a year, on average, on researching and developing new products, such as vegan chocolate, Lusa quotes Ms Tavares de Sousa as saying.
