Work by Chinese contractor on Angolan port progressing

Construction of the passenger terminal and the breakwater of the port at Cabinda in northwestern Angola is making smooth progress, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency quotes an official of the port operator, Artur Carvalho, as saying the contractor, China Gezhouba Group Co. Ltd, has done about 28 percent of the work, including half of the work on the foundations of the main building of the passenger terminal.

Mr Carvalho said the port would play an important part in the industrial development of Cabinda, especially in the oil and gas industry.

The passenger terminal and the breakwater are due to be completed about halfway through next year, Xinhua says.
