World Bank official says Mozambique has potential to ramp up growth

A representative of the World Bank in Mozambique thinks the country has a strong basis for faster economic growth this year, O País reports.

The Mozambique newspaper quotes World Bank official Mark Lundell as saying: “The international situation is improving in several ways: investment will be strong and investors will also strengthen their support for Mozambique”.

The report quotes Mr Lundell as saying conditions that affect the cost of living and business performance will improve this year.

Gross domestic product expanded by 3.3 percent last year, having grown at an average annual rate of 7.5 percent in the preceding two decades, the newspaper says.

The Banco de Moçambique, the central bank, has forecast growth of 5.5 percent this year.
