Xinhua launches Portuguese-language news portal

Chinese state-run news agency Xinhua last week launched an online news portal in Portuguese. It is aimed at promoting ties between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, the media outlet reported.

Xinhua said Portuguese.xinhua.net.com is also focused on improving knowledge among people in Portuguese-speaking Countries “of China’s socio-economic development”.

Xinhua said the new portal would publish news in Portuguese related to economics, politics, society, culture, sports and technology. The content would be via text, images and videos.

In January, People’s Daily, an official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, launched a Portuguese version of its news portal. Chinese state-run broadcaster China Radio International has been providing news in Portuguese for more than 50 years, according to Portuguese news agency Lusa.
