China to give Cabo Verde armed forces RMB30 mln

The government of Cabo Verde has announced that China will give it RMB30 million (about US$4.35 million) over the next five years to improve its armed forces.

A written announcement says Cabo Verde Defence Minister Luís Filipe Tavares and Chinese Ambassador to Cabo Verde Du Xiaocong will sign an agreement to that effect on Friday.

The agreement is the outcome of a visit to China by Mr Tavares last year and the Sino-African summit meeting in Beijing this year.

A Chinese official concerned with international defence co-operation, Zhang Yingli, will lead a military delegation to visit Cabo Verde on Friday and Saturday to discuss Sino-Cabo Verde collaboration on defense, the government announcement says.
