BMI Research sees Angolan GDP growth above 4.1 pct in 2018

Consulting firm BMI Research forecasts that the annual rate of growth in Angolan gross domestic product will exceed 4.1 percent next year, Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes BMI Research as saying other analysts forecast 2 percent at most.

BMI Research says its forecast is based mainly on expectations about the output of the Kaombo oil well, “which, once operational, will increase production by 230,000 barrels per day” – meaning greater exports of crude.

Angola has advantages including “abundant natural resources such as diamonds and hydrocarbons” and close ties with China which give it “a reliable source of public loans at relatively cheap rates”, Lusa quotes BMI Research as saying.
