China gives Cabo Verde CVE3.5 mln for African Beach Games

The Cabo Verde government has announced that it has accepted CVE3.5 million (about US$35,886) from China, which will go toward putting on the first African Beach Games, to be held in Cabo Verde next July.

The government issued written a statement saying Chinese Ambassador to Cabo Verde Du Xiaocong, Cabo Verde Director-General of Sports Anildo Santos and Cabo Verde of Sports Minister Fernando Elísio Freire attended the ceremonial handover of the money.

The statement quotes Mr Du as saying China is donating the money so Cabo Verde can enhance its standing in the world by holding the games.

Some 1,000 athletes from 54 African countries will compete, so the games require appropriate arrangements for transport, logistics, health and safety, the Cabo Verde government says.
