China gives São Tomé e Príncipe medical equipment, supplies

China has given the main hospital in São Tomé e Príncipe a batch of hospital equipment, medicines and other medical supplies worth over €130,000 (US$148,100), Lusa reports.

The Portuguese news agency quotes Chinese Ambassador to São Tomé e Príncipe Wang Wei as saying that the gift is meant to alleviate the scarcity of such goods in São Tomé e Príncipe.

“We would like our modest donation to be a small contribution to help a country that is our friend to overcome this difficulty,” Mr Wang said.

The ambassador said China had given São Tomé e Príncipe three gifts of medicines since the countries re-established diplomatic relations in 2016.

The latest gift will make up for grave shortages, Lusa quotes São Tomé e Príncipe Health Minister Edgar Neves as saying.
