Chinese companies involved in first motorway in Timor Leste

Chinese companies are playing their part in building the first motorway in Timor Leste, which will connect the city of Suai to the rest of the country, China Radio International has reported.

The Chinese state-owned broadcaster said China Overseas Engineering Group Co. Ltd and China Railway First Group Co. Ltd were building the first phase of the 155km stretch of road.

The motorway is the biggest project in East Timor that Chinese companies are involved in, China Radio International says.

“I’m glad I learned a lot from the Chinese company,” the media outlet quoted an East Timorese staff at the joint venture as saying. “At the same time, I am glad that this motorway is important for East Timor. It will benefit the people of Suai.”
