Mozambicans flock to Maputo Confucius Institute to study

Over 4,000 Mozambicans have studied at the Confucius Institute in Maputo since it opened five years ago, Xinhua reports.

The Chinese state-run news agency quotes Mozambican Deputy Minister of Higher Education Florida Hugo as saying so at the celebration of the anniversary of the opening.

The Confucius Institute is part of Eduardo Mondlane University.

The report says the institute runs four-year degree courses in Chinese, and gives Mozambican students opportunities to visit China and to work for Chinese companies doing business in Mozambique.

Chinese Ambassador to Mozambique Su Jian believes the institute will go from strength to strength in contributing to Sino-Mozambican cultural understanding and in developing Sino-Mozambican co-operation, Xinhua says.
