Portuguese professors to teach medicine at Macao college

At least two Portuguese professors will be among the teachers of the first medical programme to be taught in Macao, Ponto Final reports.

The Macao newspaper quotes Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) Center of Excellence for Medical Professional Development Director Billy Chan as saying one is Lisbon University Faculty of Medicine Dean Fausto Pinto, a cardiologist, and that the other is Madalena Patrício, formerly the president of the International Association for Medical Education.

Mr Chan said the MUST would begin this year teaching a six-year medical programme.

The first intake will comprise 50 students, and the university will give preference to Macao students in offering places in the programme, Ponto Final quotes Mr Chan as saying.

The Macao government has given the MUST the authority to award bachelor’s degrees in medicine and surgery, the Official Gazette says.
